Formal Theory of Differential-algebraic Systems

چکیده
1994 Abstract. We propose a new approach to diierential-algebraic systems based on the formal theory of partial diierential systems. This results in a new deenition of the index of the system, which is similar to but more general than the one proposed recently by Rabier and Rheinboldt. This index, however, is not related to the numerical diiculty of solving the system, but to the amount of symbolic computation required to transform the system into a formally integrable system. We argue that this latter concept is essential in the numerical treatment of the problem and suggest that any numerical method for general diierential-algebraic systems should be based on solving only formally integrable systems. This requires in general that one must be able to deal explicitly with overdetermined systems.

On the Numerical Analysis of Overdetermined Linear Partial Differential Systems
We discuss the use of the formal theory of differential equations in the numerical analysis of general systems of partial differential equations. This theory provides us with a very powerful and natural framework for generalising many ideas from differential algebraic equations to partial differential equations. We study in particular the existence and uniqueness of (formal) solutions, the meth...
متن کاملSome remarks on Kähler differentials and ordinary differentials in nonlinear control theory
In the algebraic approach to nonlinear control systems two similar notions, namely Kähler differentials and the formal vector space of differential one-forms having the properties of ordinary differentials, are frequently used to study the systems. This technical note explains that the formal vector space of differential one-forms is isomorphic to a quotient space (module) of Kähler differentia...
متن کاملAspect-Oriented Formal Techniques of Cyber Physical Systems
Cyber-physical systems pose considerable technical challenges, ranging from the distributed programming paradigms to networking protocols with timeliness as a structuring concern, including systems theory that combines physical concerns and computational concerns. Formal specification techniques for such systems have to be able to describe all these concerns. Unfortunately, a single specificati...
متن کاملAn algebraic calculation method for describing time-dependent processes in electrochemistry – Expansion of existing procedures
In this paper an alternative model allowing the extension of the Debye-Hückel Theory (DHT) considering time dependence explicitly is presented. From the Electro-Quasistatic approach (EQS) introduced in earlier studies time dependent potentials are suitable to describe several phenomena especially conducting media as well as the behaviour of charged particles (ions) in electrolytes. This leads t...
متن کاملNonlinear Bending Analysis of Sector Graphene Sheet Embedded in Elastic Matrix Based on Nonlocal Continuum Mechanics
The nonlinear bending behavior of sector graphene sheets is studied subjected to uniform transverse loads resting on a Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation using the nonlocal elasticity theory. Considering the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen theory based on first order shear deformation theory and using the von-Karman strain field, the equilibrium partial differential eq...
